magnesium has two naturally occurring isotopes: magnesium-24 and magnesium-25. if the average atomic mass of magnesium is 24.305 amu, what are the percent abundance's of each isotope?

a. 69.5% and 30.5%
b. 50% and 50%
c. 62% and 38%
d. 0.7% and 0.3%
e. .62% and .38%

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

a. 69.5% and 30.5%

Explanation:

we know there are two naturally occurring isotopes of Mg, Mg-24  and Mg-25.

First of all we will set the fraction for both isotopes

X for the isotopes having mass 25

1-x for isotopes having mass 24

The average atomic mass of Mg is 24.305 amu.

we will use the following equation,

25x + 24 (1-x) =  24.305

25x + 24 - 24x =  24.305

25x- 24x = 24.305 - 24

1x = 0.305

x= 0.305 /1

x= 0.305

0.305 × 100 = 30.5 %

30.5 % is abundance of Mg-25 because we solve the fraction x.

now we will calculate the abundance of Mg-24.

(1-x)

1-0.305 =0.695

0.695  × 100 = 69.5%

69.5%   for Mg-24.

A predisposition test is required with toners because they contain which type of derivative? a. aniline b. artifical c. oxygen d. hydrogen,

Answers

A predisposition test is required with toners because they contain which type of derivative is aniline. The correct option is a.

Toners, especially hair toners, often contain derivatives of aniline. Aniline derivatives are commonly used in hair toners due to their ability to help neutralize or counteract unwanted tones in the hair. These derivatives are often referred to as aniline dyes or aniline-based compounds.

Aniline is a chemical compound that belongs to the aromatic amine group. It is commonly used in the production of dyes, pharmaceuticals, rubber additives, and other industrial applications. Aniline derivatives can have different chemical structures and properties, allowing them to interact with hair pigments and modify the hair color.

When using toners that contain aniline derivatives, it is important to perform a predisposition test or patch test. This test involves applying a small amount of the toner on a small patch of skin, usually behind the ear or on the inner forearm, to check for any adverse reactions or allergies. This precautionary step helps ensure the safety and compatibility of the toner with an individual's skin and helps prevent potential allergic reactions.

Therefore, the correct answer is a. aniline, as toners may contain derivatives of aniline that require a predisposition test before use.

Stearic acid molecules, which are composed of long chains of carbon and hydrogen atoms with a carboxylic acid group at one end, do not exist as perfect rectangular prisms in reality.

While it is true that the molecules can form long, straight chains and pack together in a relatively ordered fashion in some cases, the actual shape of the molecules and the way they pack together can be more complex due to factors such as:

Conformational isomers: The carbon chains in stearic acid molecules can adopt different conformations, such as gauche and transforms, which can affect the shape of the molecule and how it interacts with other molecules.

Intermolecular forces: Stearic acid molecules can interact with each other through various intermolecular forces, such as van der Waals forces, hydrogen bonding, and dipole-dipole interactions. These forces can influence the shape of the molecules and the way they pack together.

Step 1 - Brief revision of Boyle's Law

Boyle's law is a law concerning the behavior of gases. It states that the pressure and the volume are inversely proportional given that the temperature is kept constant.

That is, if we increase the pressure, the volume will decrease. This principle is behind the proper functioning of our lungs, for example. This can also be described mathematically as:

\(P_1V_1=P_2V_2\)

Step 2 - Choosing the right alternative

As we have seen in step 1, we can use the following formula to work with Boyle's Law:

\(P_1V_1=P_2V_2\)

Therefore, the correct alternative is item d.

which species has the strongest carbon - carbon bond, c2hcl , c2h6 , or c2cl4 ?

Answers

The species with the strongest carbon-carbon bond is C₂H₆ (ethane). Ethane consists of two carbon atoms that are bonded together by a single sigma bond, which is the strongest type of covalent bond.

When two atoms form a covalent bond, they share a pair of electrons to achieve a stable electron configuration. In the case of multiple bonds between carbon atoms, there is a higher electron density and longer bond length compared to single bonds.

This is because the additional bonds share more electrons and have a larger electron cloud, leading to a weaker bond.  The introduction of electronegative atoms such as chlorine into a molecule can also affect the strength of carbon-carbon bonds. Chlorine has a higher electronegativity than carbon, meaning it attracts electrons more strongly.

As a result, the electrons in the bond are pulled towards the chlorine atom, creating partial charges and making the bond less symmetrical. This reduces the overlap of the electron clouds of the carbon atoms, leading to a weaker bond.

Ethane, on the other hand, has a simple single bond between its two carbon atoms, where the electrons are evenly shared. This results in a more symmetrical bond and stronger overlap of the electron clouds, leading to a stronger carbon-carbon bond.

. Calculate (a) the initial and final temperatures of the gas; (b) the amount of work the gas does in expanding; (c) the amount of heat added to the gas; (d) the change in internal energy of the gas.

Answers

The change in internal energy of the gas is 1505.86 J.

Initial volume = V₁ = 3.20 x 10⁻² m³

Final volume = V₂ = 4.50 x 10⁻² m³

Pressure = P = 2.50 atm

Number of moles = n = 3 mol

Gas constant = R = 8.31 J/mol K

(a) Initial and Final Temperature

The temperature of the gas is given by the ideal gas law:PV = nRT

Initial Temperature :T₁ = PV₁/nR = (2.5 atm x 3.20 x 10⁻² m³) / (3 mol x 8.31 J/mol K) = 321.68 K

Final Temperature:T₂ = PV₂/nR = (2.5 atm x 4.50 x 10⁻² m³) / (3 mol x 8.31 J/mol K) = 458.83 K

(b) Work Done by the gasThe work done by the gas during the expansion can be calculated using the following equation:W = -P∆V

Where ∆V = V₂ - V₁W = -2.50 atm x (4.50 x 10⁻² m³ - 3.20 x 10⁻² m³) = -0.18125 J(c) Heat added to the gas

The first law of thermodynamics relates the change in internal energy (U) of a system to the heat added (Q) to the system and the work done (W) on the system.

∆U = Q - W

where ∆U = change in internal energy = 3/2 nR (∆T) = (3/2) x 3 mol x 8.31 J/mol K (458.83 K - 321.68 K)∆U = 1505.86 JQ = ∆U + WQ = 1505.86 J + (-0.18125 J) = 1505.67875 J(d) Change in Internal Energy

The change in internal energy of the gas can be calculated as:∆U = (3/2) nR (∆T)∆U = (3/2) x 3 mol x 8.31 J/mol K (458.83 K - 321.68 K)∆U = 1505.86 J

Therefore, the initial and final temperatures of the gas are 321.68 K and 458.83 K, respectively.

The critical insulation thickness of a sphere, thermal conductivity of insulation is \(\rm K_c\) and the surface heat transfer coefficient of insulated sphere \(\rm h\), is δ\(\rm _{crit} = (2k_c / h) \times (D_i / D_o)\).

The critical insulation thickness of a sphere is the minimum insulation thickness required to prevent heat loss from the sphere to the surroundings.

The expression for the critical insulation thickness is given by:

δ\(\rm _{crit} = (2k_c / h) \times (D_i / D_o)\)

where:

- δ\(\rm _{crit}\) is the critical insulation thickness.

-\(\rm k_c\) is the thermal conductivity of the insulation material.

- h is the surface heat transfer coefficient of the insulated sphere.

- \(\rm D_i\) is the inside diameter of the sphere.

- \(\rm D_o\) is the outside diameter of the sphere.

This expression assumes that the heat transfer from the sphere to the surroundings is primarily by convection, and that the insulation is homogeneous and isotropic. The critical insulation thickness can be used to determine the optimal insulation thickness for a given application, to minimize heat loss and improve energy efficiency.

PLEASEEEE HELP DUE IN 2 HOURSS PLEASE!! 15 POINTS!!!!Someone decides to swap out nitric acid (HNO3) for hydrogen
chloride (HCI), given that it will be much stronger due to opposing dipole
forces. Explain if they are correct or incorrect and why.
*

Answers

Explanation:

The claim that hydrogen chloride (HCl) would be much stronger than nitric acid (HNO3) due to opposing dipole forces is incorrect.

Both HCl and HNO3 are strong acids, meaning that they dissociate completely in water to produce H+ ions. The strength of an acid is determined by the degree to which it dissociates in water. In other words, the stronger the acid, the more H+ ions it produces in water.

The dissociation of HCl and HNO3 in water can be represented as follows:

HCl + H2O → H+ + Cl-

HNO3 + H2O → H+ + NO3-

As we can see, both HCl and HNO3 produce H+ ions in water. Therefore, the strength of an acid cannot be solely determined by its dipole forces.

In addition, it's important to note that HCl is a much more volatile and corrosive acid than HNO3. It can cause severe respiratory and skin irritation when it is inhaled or comes into contact with skin. Therefore, switching HNO3 for HCl could be dangerous and should not be done without proper precautions and expert knowledge

Explanation:

From the question given:

A shift = 4 hours

Pay = $8.25 per hour

Next, we shall determine the number of hours that will result in a pay of $220. This can be obtained as follow:

$8.25 = 1 hour

Therefore,

$220 = $220 × 1 hour / $8.25

$220 = 220/8.25 hours.

$220 = 80/3 hours

$220 = 26⅔ hours

Therefore, it will take 26⅔ hours to receive a pay of $220.

Finally, we shall determine the number of shifts in 26⅔ hours. This can be obtained as follow:

4 hours = 1 shift

Therefore,

26⅔ hours = 26⅔ ÷ 4

26⅔ hours = 80/3 × 1/4

26⅔ hours = 80/12

26⅔ hours = 20/3

26⅔ hours = 6⅔ shifts
