In the story ''Tell Tale Heart'' do you consider the narrator to be reliable or not? Explain

Answers

Answer 1

Ahhh I remember Tell Tale Heart. I think we did a unit on it in middle school... Edgar Allen Poe makes some great short stories :)

Anyway, The narrator in tell-tale heart is not a reliable one. He's not well in the head, if you know what I mean. The author drops clues in the story that readers can pick up on to support this claim. He tries to reassure readers that he is not crazy - at the beginning of the story - but his actions suggest otherwise. For example, he admits that he doesn't even know why he wanted to kill the old man, and blames it on his "evil eye". We also see that he gets easily anxious and paranoid, from how attentive he is to his surroundings. The narrator even hallucinates that he could hear the beating of the old man's heart... AFTER he died.

So yeah, he's a little cuckoo

Answers

Answer:

Grandma Gatewood's journey was her enthusiastic journey which she took to walk the Appalachian Trail whereas Gilgamesh's journey was a quest, his search for immortal life.

Explanation:

'Grandma Gatewood's Walk' by Ben Montgomery is an inspiring story of Emma Gatewood, who at the age of 67 years took the decision to walk the Appalachian Trail. Her journey is an inspiring one, contradicting the fact that even at such an elderly age, if one truly desires to do something can do. Her enthusiasm of walking the Appalachian Trail and her achievement speaks that if one decides to do something, then one can truly do.

So, one can perceive that Grandma Gatewood's journey is filled with enthusiasm to walk the Appalachian Trail. Textual evidence:

'She packed her things in late spring, when her flowers were in full bloom, and left Gallia  County, Ohio, the only place she’d ever really called home. '

'She had not been able to get the trail out of her mind. She had

thought of it constantly back home in Ohio,...'

Whereas, the journey that Gilgamesh took after the death of his beloved friend Enkidu, was more likely a quest. After Enkidu's death, Gilgamesh set forth on his quest for an immortal life. He became afraid of death after Enkidu's death and decided to ask an immortal man how to live forever.

Textual evidence:

'...If only

I could find the one man whom the gods made immortal,

I would ask him how to overcome death."

'So Gilgamesh roamed, his heart full of anguish,

wandering, always eastward, in search

of Utnapishtim, whom the gods made immortal.'

These lines suggests that Gilgamesh set on a journey of quest for an immortal life.

2) List 3 of the 5 ways that we discussed in class for correcting a run-on sentence or comma splice.

3) Write a question that contains subject-verb agreement. (DO NOT start the question with “Where”!)

Answers

A dependent clause fragment might be "that I won".

Three ways to correct a run-on sentence or a comma splice are to read it aloud, add punctuation, and understand the context of the sentence.

A question with the verb-subject agreement is "Did he turn off the light?"

What is a dependent clause? It's a part of the sentence that doesn't make sense if read alone. It's a part of the sentence that needs another part to make sense.

The clause "that I won" is an example of a dependent clause, as we cannot understand its meaning without a compliment.

A  run-on or comma-spliced sentence is a sentence with incorrect punctuation or no punctuation. This is very harmful to the sentence to be read and understood, so it must be corrected.

The verb-subject agreement refers to the adaptation of the verb to the gender, number, and degree of the noun that composes the subject.

Which sentence below expresses numbers correctly?

The Redwings are ahead 2 – 1 in the 2 period.

The Redwings are ahead two – one in the second period.

The Redwings are ahead 2 to 1 in the second period.

The Redwings are ahead two to one in the 2nd period.

Answers

The sentence that expresses numbers correctly is "The Redwings are ahead 2 to 1 in the second period."The correct answer is option C.

Option C follows the standard conventions for expressing numbers in sports scores and periods. Here's why:

1. The numbers "2" and "1" are written as digits, which is the common format for representing numerical values.

2. The phrase "2 to 1" is used to indicate the score. This is the standard way of expressing the relationship between the scores of two teams in a game or match.

3. The word "second" is spelled out, denoting the period of the game. Ordinal numbers like "second" are typically used for indicating the sequence of periods or quarters in sports.

Option A is incorrect because it uses a hyphen instead of the word "to" to express the score, which is not the standard format.

Option B is incorrect because it uses the word "two" instead of the numeral "2" for the score. In sports reporting, digits are commonly used to represent scores.

Option D is incorrect because it combines both spelled-out and numeral forms for the score ("two to one" and "2nd period"), which is inconsistent and not the standard practice.

ACE/RACER Question: the outsider Characterize Johnny, Ponyboy, or Dally based on what has happened so far in the novel.
Characterize: describe based on the nature of and or actions of a person or object.

Answers

The summary is as follows;

Ponyboy and Johnny meet Dally (Dallas) and go to the Nightly Double Drive-In Theater. They sneak into drive-in cinemas, but entry without a car is just 25 cents. They enjoy the challenge of sneaking in, because Dally hates doing anything legal. Once inside, they sit on chairs at a food stand, where he meets two handsome women Soc. Cherry (Shelley) Vallance and Marsha leave their friends here at the drive-in because the boy wants to drink and the two girls don't. The girls are the target of Dally's nasty and rude comments, but he buys them a soda to "cool them down." Cherry throws soda in Dally's face and the situation becomes tense until Johnny steps in to protect her. Fortunately, Johnny is the gang's pet, so Dally walks off without confrontation. Two-Bit joins his Ponyboy and Johnny, and he and Marcia hit it off.

Cherry admires Johnny's bravery, but sees something else in Johnny. She questions Ponyboy about Johnny. Cherry's accurate assessment that Johnny was "severely hurt at one point" prompts Ponyboy to retell the story of Johnny being beaten by Socks. About four months ago, Johnny was chasing a football and practicing his kicks when four Sox rode by in blue Mustangs. They stopped, jumped on him, and left Johnny half dead. One of his socks had multiple rings on it, and the rings hurt Johnny badly. It wasn't the beating that changed Johnny, it was the fact that it scared him. Johnny vowed never to walk alone again and would kill the next person who jumped at him.

The story of Johnny's beating visibly upsets Cherry. She tells Ponyboy that not all socks are like Dally, just as not all greasers are like Dally. She tells him that Soc has problems too. But Ponyboy can't imagine what kind of trouble Soc is in. The chapter ends with the line "I know better now."
