Find the demand function for the marginal revenue function. Recall that if no items are sold, the revenue is 0.

R'(x) = 599 - 0.21sqrt(x)

What is the integral that is needed to solve the problem and the demand function?

Answers

Answer 1

The integral that is needed to solve the demand function is R(x) = 599x - 0.14\(x^{3/2}\)

What is Demand Function?

A demand function describes the mathematical relationship between the quantity demanded and one or more determinants of the demand, as the price of the good or service, the price of complementary and substitute goods, disposable income, etc.

Here, given differential equation;

R'(x) = 599 - 0.21\(\sqrt{x}\)

we can also write this as;

\(\frac{d}{dx}R(x) = 599 - 0.21\sqrt{x}\)

\(d R(x) = (599 - 0.21\sqrt{x} ) dx\)

On integrating both sides, we get

\(\int\ d R(x) = \int\ (599 - 0.21\sqrt{x} ) dx\)

R(x) = \(599x - 0.21 X \frac{2}{3}x^{3/2}\) + C

R(x) = 599x - 0.14\(x^{3/2}\) + C       ...........(i)

Also given, at x = 0, R(x) = 0, Put these values in equation (i), we get

0 = 0 - 0 + C

C = 0

Put the value of C in equation (i), we get

R(x) = 599x - 0.14\(x^{3/2}\)

Thus, the integral that is needed to solve the demand function is R(x) = 599x - 0.14\(x^{3/2}\)

Answers

The critical value, given the sample size of 5 and the confidence level of 99. 0 percent would be 16. 812.

How to find the critical value ?

The critical values for the chi-squared (χ^2) distribution depend on the degree of freedom and the level of significance.

The degree of freedom for a chi-squared distribution typically equals the sample size minus 1 so the degrees of freedom here is:

= 5 - 1

= 4

The level of significance would be:

= 1 - 99. 0 %

= 0. 01

The critical value of the sample would therefore be found on a chi -squared distribution table for df = 4 and α = 0.01 to be 16. 812.

x2 + 6x + 9 over x2 - 9

x2+6x+9/x2-9

3x2 - 9x over x2 - x - 6

3x2-9x/x2-x-6

Answers

Using simplification by factorisation and division

(x² + 6x + 9)/(x² - 9) = (x + 3)/(x - 3) and (3x² - 9)/(x² - x - 6) = 3x/(x + 2)

How to simplify the equations by factorization

To simplify the equations, we shall factorize both the numerator and the denominator, and divide through by a common factor.

for the equation (x² + 6x + 9)/(x² - 9);

the numerator:

x² + 6x + 9 = x² + 3x + 3x + 9

x² + 6x + 9 = x(x + 3) +3(x + 3)

x² + 6x + 9 = (x + 3)(x + 3)

the denominator:

x² - 9 = x² - 3²

x² - 9 = (x + 3)(x - 3) {difference of two squares}

(x² + 6x + 9)/(x² - 9) = (x + 3)(x + 3)/(x + 3)(x - 3)

divide through by the common factor (x + 3)

(x² + 6x + 9)/(x² - 9) = (x + 3)/(x - 3)

For the equation; (3x² - 9)/(x² - x - 6)

the numerator:

3x² - 9 = 3x(x -3)

the denominator:

x² - x - 6 = x² -3x + 2x - 6

x² - x - 6 = x(x - 3) + 2(x - 3)

x² - x - 6 = (x + 2)(x - 3)

divide through by the common factor (x - 3)

(3x² - 9)/(x² - x - 6) = 3x/(x + 2)

Thus, (x + 3)/(x - 3) and 3x/(x + 2) are the results for simplifying (x² + 6x + 9)/(x² - 9) and (3x² - 9)/(x² - x - 6) respectively using factorization.

If a = 11 ft, b = 5 ft, and c = 7 ft, what is the surface area of the geometric shape formed by this net?

Answers

In a case where a = 11 ft, b = 5 ft, and c = 7 ft, the surface area of the geometric shape formed by this net is B. 145 sq. ft.

How can the surface area of the geometric shape be calculated?

The concept that will be used here is area of triangle, we will we need need to know the area of the first 2 triangles

The area of the triangle can be expressed as :

A =( 1/2 bh)

A = (1/2 ba)

Then substitute the values we have,

a = [1/2 (11 ft.) (5 ft)]

a =  27.5 sq ft.

Then we can find the value of the area as :

A = [1/2 c*b]

If we substitue the values we,

a = [1/2 (5 ft) (7 ft)]

= 17.5 sq. ft

Then we can proceed to calculate the area of the rectangle which can be done using the formula:

A = (lw) where a = (11 ft.)(5 ft.) = 55 sq. ft

We can now find the summation of all the a's as :

[2(27.5) + 2(17.5 ) + 55 ]

directly proportional means

y = kx

with k being a constant factor for all values of x.

we get k by using the given data point (10, 15).

15 = k×10

k = 15/10 = 1.5

so, now for the other tree we know k and x and calculate y

y = 1.5×14.4 = 21.6 m

it is 21.6 m tall (its height is 21.6 m).

Consider a 1 x n checkerboard (1 by n). The squares of the checkerboard are to be painted white and gold, but no two consecutive squares may both be painted white. Let p(n) denote the number of ways to paint the checkerboard subject to this rule (restriction).
Find a recursive formula for p(n) valid for n>=3.

Answers

The recursive formula for p(n) is; p(n) = p(n-2) + p(n-3) for n >= 3. Case 1: The last square is painted white. If the last square is painted white, then the second to last square must be painted gold.

There are p(n-2) ways to paint the remaining n-2 squares of the checkerboard subject to the restriction.

Case 2: The last square is painted gold. If the last square is painted gold, then the second to last square can be painted either white or gold. If the second to last square is painted white, then there are p(n-3) ways to paint the remaining n-3 squares of the checkerboard subject to the restriction.

If the second to last square is painted gold, then there are p(n-2) ways to paint the remaining n-2 squares of the checkerboard subject to the restriction.

Therefore, the recursive formula for p(n) is: p(n) = p(n-2) + p(n-3) for n >= 3

with initial conditions p(1) = 2 and p(2) = 3.

The base case for the recursion is p(1) = 2 and p(2) = 3, which are the number of ways to paint a 1 x 1 checkerboard and a 1 x 2 checkerboard subject to the restriction, respectively.

The recursive formula counts the number of ways to paint a 1 x n checkerboard subject to the restriction by considering the last column of the checkerboard.

A desk is on sale for $438, which is 27% less than the regular price.
What is the regular price?

Answers

Answer: $600

Step-by-step explanation:

The sale price is 27% less means $438 is equal to 73% of the original price. So to calculate the original price:

Original price = (438÷73) X 100

                           $ 600

The regular price of the desk is $600.

What is the percentage?

The percentage is defined as a given amount in every hundred. It is a fraction with 100 as the denominator percentage is represented by the one symbol %.

The percentage is also called the indicating hundredths. Thus, 2% is two-hundredth, which means 2%=2/100=0.02.

Let's say the regular price of a desk = x

Then,

27% of x ⇒ 27 × x / 100 = 0.27x

So,

x - 0.27x = 438

0.73x = 438

x = 600

Hence "The regular price of the desk is $600".

Each statement describes a transformation of the graph of f(x) = x. Which statement correctly describes the graph of g(x) if g(x) = f(x - 11)?
A. It is the graph of f(x) where the slope is increased by 11.
It is the graph of f(x) translated 11 units to the left.
It is the graph of f(x) translated 11 units up.
It is the graph of f(x) translated 11 units to the right.
B.
C.
OD.

Answers

The correct answer is C. It is the graph of f(x) translated 11 units to the left.

The correct answer is:

C. It is the graph of f(x) translated 11 units to the left.

When we have a function of the form g(x) = f(x - a), it represents a horizontal translation of the graph of f(x) by 'a' units to the right if 'a' is positive and to the left if 'a' is negative.

In this case, g(x) = f(x - 11), which means that the graph of f(x) is being translated 11 units to the right. However, the answer options do not include this specific transformation. The closest option is option C, which states that the graph of g(x) is translated 11 units to the left.

The graph of f(x) = x is a straight line passing through the origin with a slope of 1. If we apply the transformation g(x) = f(x - 11), it means that we are shifting the graph of f(x) 11 units to the right. This results in a new function g(x) that has the same shape and slope as f(x), but is shifted to the right by 11 units.

Therefore, the correct answer is C. It is the graph of f(x) translated 11 units to the left.

STORIES OF USEFUL INVENTIONS, excerptBy S. E. Forman1911THE MATCHThere never was a time when the world was without fire, but there was a time when men did not know how to kindle fire; and after they learned how to kindle one, it was a long, long time before they learned how to kindle one easily. In these days we can kindle a fire without any trouble, because we can easily get a match; but we must remember that the match is one of the most wonderful things in the world, and that it took men thousands of years to learn how to make one. Let us learn the history of this familiar little object, the match.Fire was first given to man by nature itself. When a forest is set on fire by cinders from a neighboring volcano, or when a tree is set ablaze by a thunderbolt, we may say that nature strikes a match. In the early history of the world, nature had to kindle all the fires, for man by his own effort was unable to produce a spark. The first method, then, of getting fire for use was to light sticks of wood at a flame kindled by nature-by a volcano, perhaps, or by a stroke of lightning. These firebrands were carried to the home and used in kindling the fires there. The fire secured in this way was carefully guarded and was kept burning as long as possible. But the flame, however faithfully watched, would sometimes be extinguished. A sudden gust of wind or a sudden shower would put it out. Then a new firebrand would have to be secured, and this often meant a long journey and a deal of trouble.In 1827, John Walker, a druggist in a small English town, tipped a splint with sulphur, chlorate of potash, and sulphid of antimony, and rubbed it on sandpaper, and it burst into flame. The druggist had discovered the first friction-chemical match, the kind we use to-day. It is called friction-chemical because it is made by mixing certain chemicals together and rubbing them. Although Walker's match did not require the bottle of acid, nevertheless it was not a good one. It could be lighted only by hard rubbing, and it sputtered and threw fire in all directions. In a few years, however, phosphorus was substituted on the tip for antimony, and the change worked wonders. The match could now be lighted with very little rubbing, and it was no longer necessary to have sandpaper upon which to rub it. It would ignite when rubbed on any dry surface, and there was no longer any sputtering. This was the phosphorus match, the match with which we are so familiar.What issue made a match, or other device for starting a fire, necessary?
