suppose we flip four coins simultaneously: a penny, a nickel, a dime, and a quarter. what is the probability that the penny and nickel both come up heads?

Answers

The probability of the coins penny and nickel both should show heads when four coins flip simultaneously is equal to 1/4.

As given in the question,

Number of coins flip simultaneously = 4

Possible outcomes on flipping a outcome = { head , tail}

Total outcomes = 2

Probability of getting a head for each coin = 1 /2

Probability of getting heads on both the coins penny and nickel

= ( 1 / 2 ) × ( 1 / 2 )

= ( 1 / 4 )

Therefore, the probability of getting heads on both the coins penny and nickel is equal to 1 / 4.

a polyhedron has all faces triangles or quadrilaterals, and $1001$ edges. what is the difference between the maximum and minimum possible numbers of faces?

Answers

Using Euler'formula, the difference between maximum and minimum possible numbers of faces is 96.

A polyhedron is a 3D shape with flat faces, straight edges, and sharp vertices (corners). "polyhedron" meaning "many" and "polyhedron" meaning "area". Therefore, when many planes are joined, they form a polyhedron.

Because all faces are triangles. So on a triangular base with triangular faces on both sides that meet at the vertex.

Therefore, the minimum number of triangular faces of a regular polyhedron is = 4

Next, the double pyramid has "2n" triangular faces. where n is a natural number greater than 2 and 'n' represents the number of sides of the base of the pyramid.

A polyhedron having equal quadrilateral faces is known as regular hexahedron.

quadrilateral faced polyhedron with total sides 100 and vertices 6 , then using Euler's formula

F + V-E = 2

=> F + 6- 100= 2 => F = 96 maximum faces possible = 96

Now the difference between maximum and minimum number of faces = 100 - 4 = 96

So the difference between maximum and minimum faces is 96.

A car of mass 800kg collides with a truck of mass 5000kg traveling at 40m/s.The car is thrown on to bonet of the truck which continous to more after impact at 10m/s in the original direction .How fast was the car moving.

Answers

Answer:

177.5 m/s   (*)

Step-by-step explanation:

Applying the conservation of momentum for elastic collisions, with:

m1 = mass of car: 800 kg

v1  = velocity of car (unknown)

m2= mass of truck: 5000 kg

v2 = velocity of truck -40 m/s (opposite direction with car)

v2' = velocity of truck after collision =  -10m/s (opposite direction with car)

=> m1 x v1 + m2 x v2 = (m1 + m2)v2'

=>  800 x v1 + 5000 x (-40) = (800 + 5000) x (-10)

<=>800 x v1 = 200000 - 58000

<=> 800 x v1 =142000

<=> v1 = 177.5 m/s

This result looks like unreal.

In fact, it would be more reasonable if the velocities of truck before and after collision are 40km/h and 10km/h respectively. Hence, the result is 177.5 km/h.

Utility workers need to reach the roof of a 32 foot building by using an extended ladder. The ladder can extend to 40 feet. What angle of elevation do the workers need place the ladder so that the top reaches the building's
roof line?

Answers

at 53.13 °angle of elevation, the workers need to place the ladder so that the top reaches the building's roof line.

What is the right-angle triangle?

A triangle is said to be right-angled if one of its angles is exactly 90 degrees. The total of the other two angles is 90 degrees. Perpendicular and the triangle's base are the sides that make up the right angle. The longest of the three sides, the third side is known as the hypotenuse.

We can use trigonometry to find the angle of elevation that the workers need to place the ladder so that the top reaches the building's roof line. Let θ be the angle of elevation.

From the problem, we know that the ladder is 40 feet long and the building is 32 feet tall.

The ladder, the building, and the ground form a right triangle, with the ladder as the hypotenuse, the building as the opposite side, and the ground as the adjacent side.

Using the trigonometric ratio for the tangent of an angle in a right triangle, we have:

Sin θ = (adjacent side)/ hypotenuse

Sin θ = 32/40

Sin θ = 0.8

θ = 53.13°

Therefore, at 53.13 °angle of elevation, the workers need to place the ladder so that the top reaches the building's roof line.

The t(15) value specifies that a t-test was conducted with a sample size of 15 participants, resulting in 15 degrees of freedom.

The obtained t-value of -2.56 reflects both the magnitude and direction of the treatment effect.

To further interpret the significance of the treatment effect, the reported p-value of less than .05 is crucial.

This indicates that the probability of observing such a significant effect purely by chance is less than 5%.

Answers

The sampling interval is calculated by dividing the digital sampling frequency by the number of samples taken per second.

The sampling interval refers to the time interval between each consecutive sample in a digital signal. It is determined by dividing the digital sampling frequency by the number of samples taken per second. The sampling frequency represents the number of samples captured in one second, while the number of samples per second represents the rate at which the samples are taken. By dividing the sampling frequency by the number of samples per second, we can determine the time interval between each sample.

This is crucial in accurately representing and reconstructing the original analog signal from the digital samples. Therefore, the sampling interval is calculated by dividing the digital sampling frequency by the number of samples taken per second.

Answers

the number that divided by 6 leaves a remainder of 5, divided by 5 leaves a remainder of 4, divided by 4 leaves a remainder of 3, is 60.

To solve this problem, we can use the Chinese Remainder Theorem.

Let's denote the number we're looking for as x.

According to the given conditions:

- When x is divided by 6, it leaves a remainder of 5.

- When x is divided by 5, it leaves a remainder of 4.

- When x is divided by 4, it leaves a remainder of 3.

We can set up the following system of congruences:

x ≡ 5 (mod 6)

x ≡ 4 (mod 5)

x ≡ 3 (mod 4)

To find the solution using the Chinese Remainder Theorem, we need to find the least common multiple (LCM) of the moduli (6, 5, 4), which is 60.

Next, we can rewrite the system of congruences as follows:

x ≡ 5 (mod 6)  -->  x ≡ 5 (mod 60)

x ≡ 4 (mod 5)  -->  x ≡ 4 (mod 60)

x ≡ 3 (mod 4)  -->  x ≡ 3 (mod 60)

Now, we can combine these congruences into a single congruence:

x ≡ (5 * 60 * 7 + 4 * 60 * 12 + 3 * 60 * 15) (mod 60)

x ≡ 540 + 2880 + 2700 (mod 60)

x ≡ 6120 (mod 60)

x ≡ 0 (mod 60)

Therefore, the number we're looking for, x, is a multiple of 60. The smallest positive solution is x = 60.

In conclusion, the number that divided by 6 leaves a remainder of 5, divided by 5 leaves a remainder of 4, divided by 4 leaves a remainder of 3, is 60.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

To do this problem, we have to make an equation. We can use "w" as the number of weeks he will need to save up for the ticket. The total amount we want is 48, so part of is equation is made: =48. The next part is multiplying the number of weeks we get for both acquiring (5w) and spending (-1.5w) money. The number of weeks is w, now we have (5w)-1.5w=48. With this, you get w =13.714285 so, it will take Bradley about 14 weeks to save enough money to purchase the football ticket.

Today, Andrew borrowed R200 000 from a bank. The bank charges interest at 5.25%p.a, a compounded quarterly. Andrew will make make payments of R6 000 at the end of 3 months. His first repayment will be made 3 months from now, how long in years will it take for Andrew to settle the loan

Answers

In order to calculate the time it will take for Andrew to settle the loan, we can use the formula for compound interest. So, it will take Andrew approximately 5.22 years to settle the loan.

The formula is given as A = P(1 + r/n)^(nt), Where: A = the final amount, P = the principal (initial amount borrowed), R = the annual interest rate, N = the number of times the interest is compounded in a year, T = the time in years.

We know that Andrew borrowed R200 000 from a bank at an annual interest rate of 5.25% compounded quarterly and that he will make repayments of R6 000 at the end of every 3 months.

Since the first repayment will be made 3 months from now, we can consider that the initial loan repayment is made at time t = 0. This means that we need to calculate the value of t when the total amount repaid is equal to the initial amount borrowed.

Using the formula for compound interest: A = P(1 + r/n)^(nt), We can calculate the quarterly interest rate:r = (5.25/100)/4 = 0.013125We also know that the quarterly repayment amount is R6 000, so the amount borrowed minus the first repayment is the present value of the loan: P = R200 000 - R6 000 = R194 000

We can now substitute these values into the formula and solve for t: R194 000(1 + 0.013125/4)^(4t) = R200 000(1 + 0.013125/4)^(4t-1) + R6 000(1 + 0.013125/4)^(4t-2) + R6 000(1 + 0.013125/4)^(4t-3) + R6 000(1 + 0.013125/4)^(4t)

Rearranging the terms gives us: R194 000(1 + 0.013125/4)^(4t) - R6 000(1 + 0.013125/4)^(4t-1) - R6 000(1 + 0.013125/4)^(4t-2) - R6 000(1 + 0.013125/4)^(4t-3) - R200 000(1 + 0.013125/4)^(4t) = 0

Using trial and error, we can solve this equation to find that t = 5.22 years (rounded to 2 decimal places). Therefore, it will take Andrew approximately 5.22 years to settle the loan.

However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).[5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use.
